5 health hacks to achieve your new years goals with our Geelong Chiro’s support
Posted on January 24, 2023 in NewsLet us help you achieve your goals for 2023!
Often we start a new year with new goals or “New Year’s resolutions”. Common goals are usually around weight loss or fitness but often become too difficult or unachievable as we don’t look at the bigger picture as well as the smaller steps it to to get there.
We can also hit roadblocks such as an injury that can derail our goals. Managing our risk of injury through Chiropractic care as well as taking a holistic approach to our health is something we are very passionate about at Shannon Avenue Chiropractic.
We think that the ultimate goal for 2023 should be health! We are passionate about providing our patients with the tools they need in order to achieve health and wellness and we can deliver on this through:
- Correct movement and stretching/rehab exercises.
- Eating better
- Improving sleep quality
- Lifestyle and postural advice
- Reducing the risk of injury
- Regular Chiropractic adjustments
We are passionate about health. Not just about Chiropractic care but holistic health and the importance of movement to ensure your body is functioning, healing, and working as optimally as possible. One of Dr. Gooch’s favourite sayings is “keep it warm, keep it moving”. We can help you achieve your goals and ensure stay on track.
Set yourself achievable goals that will help you get to your ultimate goal, a good way to approach this is the S.M.A.R.T system:
- Specific – what is it exactly that you want to achieve
- Measurable – rather fixate on the scales, set other goals. How many push up you want to do, or kms do you want to be able to run
- Achievable – Is the goal achievable in the timeframe and with your lifestyle and skill set.
- Relevant – How will this goal contribute to your life in a positive way.
- Time-bound – set a realistic goal and when you would like to achieve it by.
Here are our top 5 tips:
#1 Attend regular chiropractic appointments to keep yourself on track
Setting yourself a goal of attending monthly or 6 weekly appointments can help keep you on track. Regular Chiropractic care can help you move freely, promote healing and ensure that any niggles don’t turn into long-term injuries. The research tells us that patients who undergo maintenance care are less likely to depend on medication to manage pain, experience less painful days, and report less spinal stiffness. We prescribe tailored exercises and stretches that will help you progress at home, we also share exercises and at-home stretches on our Instagram and Facebook page.
#2 Sign up for local fitness events or join a community-minded gym
We love runners and running in general for mental health and physical health.
Events we love to support and be involved in around the Geelong region include Run for Geelong , The Kieser Great Ocean Road Running Festival, and rivers gift. If running is your thing these are for you.
We are lucky enough to have some great Gyms in Geelong that can help you achieve your goals. Upstate Studio, Good Folk yoga and Luce Fit are great local gyms that are passionate about holistic health. You can find Hannah, Sai, and Laura attending these locations on a regular basis.
#3 Find a community that is aligned with your goals.
The Finishr is a great community group that focuses on running, walking, stretching, and mindfulness as a group. They are passionate about connecting, sweating together and inspiring their community. They host their weekly Sunday sessions across Geelong and the Bellarine.
#4 Prioritise your Sleep Health
Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle it ensures we get adequate rest, helps maintain our mental health and helps our joints, muscles, tendons/ligaments, and our systems heal, regulate and rejuvenate as we sleep. Sleep hygiene is an important factor in optimizing our sleep health. Talk to us about the recommended mattresses and if at any time you would like to try one of our Complete Sleeperrr pillows please let us know as we allow patients to take them home and try them before you buy.
Here are some other tips to help you get a good night’s sleep:
- Reducing stimulation and bright lighting before bed (dim lighting, wearing specific eyewear to reduce light, downloading apps for phone and tablets that reduce background lighting f.lux)
- No phones of tablets in bed – by giving your phone a bedtime before yours.
- Invest in a quality Chiropractic Pillow to help promote correct sleeping posture and support your neck
#5 Take steps to eat healthier
At Shannon Ave Chiro we love eating healthy and sharing our passion for good food. Check out our Instagram Page for recipes that focus on cooking at home. We also love meal planning and batch cooking to freeze for those times you don’t feel like cooking.
