Often sufferers of Arthritis don’t consider Chiropractor when it comes to managing their arthritic pain. Dr Matthew has personally seen the benefits our patients have experienced with chiropractic care. Chiropractic can help reduce pain, manage inflammation and minimise acute flare ups.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common forms that we see in our Geelong clinic. Know as “wear and tear” arthritis is it a degenerative condition that occurs when there is a loss of cartilage around the joint. This cartilage loss inhibits free movement of the joint which can cause pain and swelling in the joints. The condition is prevalent in all age group however the risk does increase with age.

The risk of osteoarthritis can also be increased due to certain working conditions, sporting injuries and trauma. This form of arthritis in particular effect our weight bearing joints. The knees, hips, lumbar spine and ankles and are the most commonly effected areas.

Chiropractic care can provide non invasive and conservative care that can help reduce the symptoms of severely damaged arthritic joints.

After a thorough assessment Dr Matthew may use various Chiropractic treatments in order to achieve the best results for the patients. including

  • Spinal manipulation
  • An exercise program, designed to help improve flexibility and keep the joints warm and moving
  • Postural and functional advice, e.g. workplace ergonomics and corrective posture advice.
  • Dry Needling

As Arthritis is a degenerate condition we do recommend regular care to help manage and reduce the impact of arthritis on your daily life. Maintenance care of visits every 4-6 weeks is the most effective method of maintaining joint range and strength. It also allows Dr Matthew to be aware of any improvements or setbacks in your care so he is able to review and modify your treatment to ensure you live as pain free as possible.
