Our 9 tips for a healthy & happy Christmas

Posted on December 1, 2018 in News

Its a wonderful time of year, but it’s often filled with over indulgence and busy schedules. Your health and well-being usually goes straight to the bottom of the Christmas list. This year we have put together 9 easy steps to ensure that your Christmas is HAPPY, HEALTHY & PAIN FREE!

TAKE IT EASY!

With the warm weather and the time off we all love to get outside and try new things or do things we haven’t in a long time.

If you are doing things you don’t normally do, like surfing, running or backyard cricket remember to take it easy and listen to your body for any warning signs.

START YOUR DAY THE RIGHT WAY!

We all know that Christmas and the festive season can revolve around food and over indulgence!

Start the day with a healthy breakfast. Pick something that will satisfy you & keep you full, whether it’s a smoothie or eggs & greens. Setting a healthy intention will put you on the right track for the day ahead.

DON’T STRESS!

We all feel the mad rush in the lead up to Christmas. You have to decorate the house, buy the perfect presents, cook, clean, and catch-up with all your friends and family!

Remember, Christmas is just one day out of the year, this time is suppose to be fun and festive. Keep the spirit light hearted, it’s not worth stressing over.

STAY HYDRATED!

With all the hot weather and festive activities make sure you keep your fluids up.

We love having still or sparkling water with lots of ice, mint, lemon/lime and frozen berries. It looks festive without the need to add to your alcohol consumption.

TAKE “ME-TIME”!

Make sure you take some time out to do something just for yourself. This time of year can be all about family and friends but its equally important to look after “YOU”.

Be totally selfish, read a book, go for a walk along the beach, do some yoga or meditation or have a bath! What ever makes you feel recharged and taken care of.

KEEP MOVING!

It’s the best time of year to get out and about and moving. Take advantage of the warmer weather & make movement apart of your daily ritual! Go for a walk with a friend or get the family to play outside.

If you struggle for motivation, set your alarm & get moving as soon as you wake up, no time to make excuses.

WATCH YOUR ALCOHOL INTAKE!

We can tend to get a bit “silly” around this time of year when it comes to alcohol. Try to keep your intake to 1-2 standard drinks per day and ensure you have alcohol free days.

Alcohol is loaded with sugar & empty calories & it’s easy to over indulge. Make sure you drink plenty of water in between drinks.

 SLEEP!

I don’t know about you but I always feel more tired this time of year!

Use the holidays to catch up on sleep ins or try get to bed earlier.

Just make sure you don’t oversleep & spend the whole day in bed!

GET ADJUSTED!

Before we go away on our annual leave, make sure you pop in and get your spine and nervous system checked by Dr Matthew.

Let’s be honest the added sugar, Christmas parties, and end of year deadlines will add to the stress on your spine and nervous system.

It’s the perfect time to make sure you are happy and healthy for the Christmas period.
